Football club granted planning permission for hotel development

Ebbsfleet United Football Club has had planning permission granted for the redevelopment of its Northfleet/Plough End stand.

The new stand will integrate a 55-bedroom hotel as well as accommodating 1,750 supporters on standing terraces.

At a hearing at the Civic Centre, Gravesham Borough Council gave unanimous approval for the redevelopment, removing the final hurdle to the reconstruction of the stadium.

“The decision was unanimous and this is another piece of very good news in a fantastic week for this football club,” said Peter Varney, vice-chairman at Ebbsfleet United.

“I would like to thank Gravesham Borough Council and the regulatory planning board for their swift and decisive action.

“It’s a decision that not only benefits and safeguards the future of the football club, but is also key to the overall regeneration of the local community and we are delighted to be able to launch the next phase of the stadium redevelopment.”

The council did impose minor conditions attached to the planning approval, but supporters were assured they would be far less complicated than those which held up the main stand development.

Work on the Plough End will now begin in mid-summer.
