Lovell begins work on £3.4m sustainable new-build development

Lovell has started work on a new £3.4m development of 30 flats for social rent in south Edinburgh.

The development will be constructed on behalf of Link Group Ltd and it is expected to reach completion in late October.

The finished development will consist of nine one-bedroom flats and 21 two-bedroom flats, four of which will be wheelchair accessible.

The development will achieve the optional silver level standard in sustainability, under the 2011 Building Regulations.

The outer rooftops of the development will be fitted with state-of-the-art photovoltaic panels, helping to reduce energy bills for occupants as well as lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

Lovell operations in Scotland has undergone a period of significant growth, with the housebuilder on track to build more than 450 new homes this year, a 60% increase on the number of units completed in 2016.

“This is an exciting time for Lovell and we are delighted to be working with Link Group to provide much-needed, high-quality homes for social rent in the south side of Edinburgh,” said Stephen Profili, regional managing director for Lovell in Scotland (pictured above).

“The flats at Gilmerton Dykes Road will provide spacious, modern living as well as setting a high standard in sustainable construction and accessibility.

“We look forward to delivering high-quality affordable housing that should benefit the local area for many years to come.”

Colin Culross, director of development and asset management at Link, added: “I’m delighted that Link continues to make its contribution to the City of Edinburgh Council’s pledge to build more affordable homes and, in this case, 30 new social tenancies will be created as well as delivering a range of community benefits by development contractor Lovell.”
