Willmott Dixon promotes careers in construction

Construction and property services company Willmott Dixon has revealed that its employees spent 55,895 hours during 2016 on activities to enhance communities and promote careers in construction.

This represented 1% of total hours worked, with nearly 75% of its 3,000-strong workforce taking part in some form of activity.

The company believes that in time a target of nearly 2% of total hours worked dedicated to community activity is feasible as part of its annual £2m plus investment in improving the fabric of local communities and promoting construction as a career choice for young people.

Rick Willmott, group chief executive at Willmott Dixon, said: “We take seriously the influence we have to strengthen society beyond our buildings and believe that freeing up over 1% of our people’s time to promote the industry and work in the community achieves just that.

“We also find from feedback among our staff that one of the things they like about working for Willmott Dixon is the opportunity they have to make a wider impact in their communities through our foundation, which aims to improve the life chances of 10,000 young people by 2020.”

Willmott Dixon claimed that its 2016 community work had transformed the lives of 599 young people and improved the lives of 4,586.

Rick added: “Investing 1% of our people’s time to carry out tasks like promoting construction in schools, contributing to initiatives that improve communal facilities and creating full-time jobs is a ‘win-win’ for our industry and we’ll keep setting the bar higher.”
