Council seeks development partner for Maidenhead Golf Course

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is looking for a development partner to progress the construction of a residential-led, mixed-use scheme at Maidenhead Golf Course.

Last week, councillors approved the emerging masterplan for the golf course and agreed the process for securing a partner.

The council has appointed property adviser Savills to find a partner for the development of part of the 132-acre golf course.

The development plan could create up to 2,000 new homes within walking distance of Maidenhead town centre, with 30% of the homes being affordable.

“This landmark development will bring a host of opportunities to the town,” said Cllr Simon Dudley, leader of the council.

“We are committed to providing the outstanding facilities Maidenhead deserves.

“I hope that we are able to provide people with a connection to the royal borough – either having grown up here or now working within it – access to these properties through a ‘first dibs’ approach.”

Only 60% of the area to the south of the town will be developed and ancient coppice woodland will be preserved alongside a new primary and secondary school as well as new community facilities.

Infrastructure – including roads, drainage, and entry and exit points from the site – will also be developed.

Cllr Jack Rankin, cabinet member for economic development, property and deputy for finance, said that by developing on this site it would create homes for future generations.

“The council will seize this once-in-a-generation opportunity and build a borough for everyone, ensuring key workers can live here and our communities still function.

“We will provide high-quality homes and facilities that have a sympathetic design that works with and enhances the surroundings.

“Preparatory work has already begun with ecological and traffic surveys underway.

“We are very excited about this opportunity and look forward to seeing the emerging ideas for the site.”
