Wates signs £31.6m contract to build Birmingham residential scheme

Wates Construction has signed a £31.6m deal to build Regal (West Point) Ltd’s second residential scheme at the Bank development in Birmingham city centre.

The 30-storey building – one of the city’s tallest – will provide 205 high-quality apartments and include a ground-floor retail space.

The residential block on Broad Street will be nine storeys taller than its neighbouring building, which is also being built by Wates.

Both schemes have been designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects.

The first building recently held its topping out ceremony and is set to welcome residents to its 189 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments in July 2018.

John Carlin, business unit director at Wates Construction Midlands, said: “Collaborating with Regal on the Bank and creating a striking new addition to Birmingham’s skyline has been a fantastic experience for our Birmingham team.

“We are therefore honoured that our relationship is continuing with the second building at the Bank.

“When complete, the two buildings of the Bank will be a benchmark for urban residential schemes in Birmingham.”

The development of the second building is scheduled for completion in autumn 2019.

Wates has an extensive portfolio of projects in Birmingham, including Ardstone Capital’s Grade-A office scheme at Phoenix House, the development of Eastside City Park and the fit out of Gowling WLG’s premises at Two Snowhill.
