Football club stadium redevelopment plans approved

Croydon Council has unanimously awarded planning permission for the redevelopment of the main stand at Crystal Palace Football Club.

The plans were submitted by the Premier League club in February 2018 and reported that it would build six new family homes as part of the redevelopment.

The council’s cross-party planning committee has given the green light for the club’s proposals, which will see the main stand extended to increase the stadium’s capacity from 26,000 to more than 34,000.

The expansion plans will include the creation of a new glass-front stand, as well as a larger pitch and additional accommodation for wheelchair-using supporters and the provision of new facilities for the local community.

Shifa Mustafa, executive director of place at Croydon Council, said that it was great news for Croydon that the planning committee had approved Crystal Palace Football Club’s application for Selhurst Park.

“The redevelopment will create over 100 new jobs and enhance the experience of fans on matchday and visitors to the club.

“The council remains committed to working closely with the club to ensure suitable accommodation is found for all residents of Wooderson Close, whose homes are affected by the club’s plans, and will ensure the impacts of the development are properly mitigated.”
