A director of two property development firms has been disqualified from directly or indirectly becoming involved in the management of a company for 12 years.
Gordon Stuart Douglas McLure, 44, of Northamptonshire, agreed to a voluntary disqualification undertaking for knowingly submitting false VAT returns to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
McLure claimed nearly £900,000 while director of Home Net (UK) Limited, West Homes (UK) Limited, two property development firms, and UCO Fuel, a manufacturer of refined petroleum products.
All three firms entered liquidation with HMRC being the largest creditor in each case for unpaid VAT.
Sue MacLeod, Chief Investigator at The Insolvency Service, said: “Company directors should note from this enforcement result that any failure to properly account to HMRC is likely to lead to serious censure.
“In this particular case, Mr McLure knowingly submitted false returns in order to claim monies from HMRC to which he was not entitled, meaning that both HMRC and taxpayers lost out.”
