What does your average day look like at Oblix?
As a business development manager, I am responsible for strengthening existing relationships, developing additional business from my existing clients, and finding new business opportunities, whether it be through face-face meetings, telephone or email conversations. I also do quite a lot of research throughout the day with a view to identifying potential clients that may benefit from our products.
I count myself lucky in the sense that a lot of my clients have been with me for many years, and I take great pleasure in watching my professional relationships flourish.
What are the favourite aspects of your role?
This may sound like a cliché, but I like the fact that no two days are the same. I am also a people-person, so I enjoy the networking side of my role, and meeting new people. Lastly, seeing deals complete, from start to finish, gives me a buzz and great sense of achievement.
What are the most challenging aspects of your role?
The legalities of property finance, actually. Finding a solicitor who understands bridging (speed being the most important thing) is very rare.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
That’s simple – never give up.
If you could offer a new BDM one piece of advice, what would it be?
Always value the introducer and the fact that they have used our services. For a broker to place trust in us to help their client is a responsibility that I take very seriously.
What would you want to do if you weren’t a BDM?
This may sound cheesy, but I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I really enjoy my job and the challenge that each new day brings.
Who would you most like to have dinner with?
Richard Branson. He is an incredibly talented and successful entrepreneur, and an admirable philanthropist.
