Former building society HQ set for refurbishment

The iconic former home of Scarborough Building Society is set for a complete fit out and refurbishment to accommodate its new tenant.

The fertiliser development company Sirius Minerals PLC has appointed Saracen Interiors to refurbish Prospect House in Scarborough.

The new premises – at Scarborough’s southern gateway – will support Sirius’s expansion plans, which include growing its head office team from 70 to 160 this year.

The refurbishment covers 55,000 sq ft over three floors and will include the installation of mechanical and electrical facilities.

“We’re pleased to have won this important contract as we were initially up against pretty stiff competition, including some of the UK’s leading main contractors,” said Michael Page, director of Saracen Interiors.

“We have been building a profile in Yorkshire for some time and this is our biggest contract win in the region to date.

“We’re particularly delighted that we are working on such a prominent and well-known site in Scarborough as we know there will be a wide interest in the end results, which will give us further opportunity to showcase our work.”

Sirius is set to move into its new offices in July.
