Willmott Dixon awarded £23.7m science facility contract

Willmott Dixon has won a £23.7m contract to deliver a new science facility at the Harwell Science Campus in Oxfordshire.

The construction and property services company has been appointed by the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) to create a specialist support space that will allow researchers to test and commission new scientific equipment for use on the Harwell Science Campus.

Two years earlier, Willmott completed the RAL Space facility for STFC, also at the Harwell Science Campus.

Peter Owen, managing director of Willmott Dixon in the Midlands, said: “We are delighted to be back working with STFC, where we will again deploy our highly experienced science and technology build team to create the exacting standards required for the testing of accelerator and scientific instrument components.”

Willmott Dixon will be working with Oxford architects Clarke Nicholls Marcel and AECOM to develop the project, which is set for completion by spring 2018.

Willmott recently completed the new home for the Met Office’s new supercomputer, expanded the BioCity complex in Nottingham with a £26m life science building and was involved in a project to build Wales’ first science park on Anglesey.
