L&G snaps up ex-Berkeley director for modular housing division

Legal & General has announced the appointment of a new director for its modular housing division.

David Jones joins from housebuilder Berkeley Homes and will serve as modular integration director, responsible for the interaction between L&G’s modular housing factory and internal or external clients.

The company’s new modular division is due to employ over 400 local people, representing the largest modular homes construction factory in Europe.

When at full capacity, L&G expects to produce up to 3,500 modular homes per year.

“Having built up a strong leadership with relevant housing expertise across our platform, L&G owns a successful portfolio of active housing-related investments … all of which have proved profitable and which are projected to continue to grow successfully,” said James Lidgate, director of housing at L&G Capital.

“Differentiated from our investors in this space, L&G’s long-term, develop to hold approach allows it to invest for the future, developing high-quality homes with an enduring appeal.”

The company has also boosted its principal urban regeneration offering with the appointment of Damon Brown, formerly of Essential Living, as a construction portfolio manager.

Damon brings over 15 years of construction industry experience, having also served as senior project manager at BAM/HBG Construction.

He will now assist with L&G’s wider housing initiatives, including its investments into build-to-rent and build-to-sell.

Earlier this month, L&G acquired a build-to-rent development site with permission for 250 homes and nearly 9,000 sq ft of commercial and amenity space.
