Chilmington Green development to deliver 5,750 new homes

Ashford Borough Council has announced plans to deliver 5,750 new homes in the region over the next 20 years.

The council and its community partners – which include Kingsnorth, Great Chart with Singleton and Shadoxhurst Parish Councils, Kent County Council, the Chilmington Green Community Stakeholder Group and other partners – have developed the strategy.

Planning permission for the development was granted early in 2017, with early works having already commenced.

Significant consultation has taken place, with the strategy amended to reflect the feedback received.

The council’s cabinet has now recommended that full council adopts the early community development strategy for Chilmington Green.

Cllr Neil Shorter, portfolio for finance and IT, said: “Given the aspirations at Chilmington for a high-quality development and the multitude of partners involved in some way on developing the site, it is vital for local residents and delivery partners to be provided with a framework which defines how, when and where residents can expect to be educated, engaged and empowered in the community.”

Cllr Mike Bennet, portfolio holder for culture, added: “We need to involve and communicate with existing residents from the earliest point of activity on site and there needs to be an agreed approach in place for the first residents when they take up occupation.

“This will drive the quality agenda, a consistent approach across the partners and ensure residents feel part of something that is unique and special.”
