Plans approved for £350m mixed-use development

Leeds City Plans Panel has approved the planning application for CEG’s South Bank development.

The plans include the redevelopment of a derelict 8.69-acre site, which will result in a sustainable mixed-use development.

CEG’s hybrid planning application – which was submitted in September 2017 – would see the construction of two office developments with up to 26,100m2 of ground floor retail and leisure space.

The proposals also include outline planning permission for a mixed-use development with up to 103,900m2 of space for offices, retail, leisure, hotel, health, education and community uses, as well as parking and up to 750 new homes, with new public spaces and landscaping.

The developer intends to retain the façade of the two-storey printworks building as a feature within the design of the project.

CEG is working with architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBStudios) on the project.

Jon Kenny, development director at CEG, said: “The site is the principal rail gateway into Leeds and the scheme has been designed to make a powerful positive impact on arrival to the city, showing how we are preparing for HS2 and investing to ensure our city offers development of an international quality.”

CEG is currently managing a £400m brownfield regeneration scheme at Kirkstall Forge, which has seen the opening of a new station and a flagship 110,000 sq ft office.
