Three major developments given go-ahead in one day

Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s planning committee has awarded planning permission to three major development schemes that could deliver almost 1,200 residential units to the city.

The three schemes include a major student development with more that 900 apartments across three multi-storey buildings.

The developments that have received approval are:

full planning permission granted for the development of 128 homes on brownfield land off Lichfield Street, Hanley, which will involve a mixture of two- and three-bedroom homes and one- and two-bedroom apartments

outline planning permission for a residential and commercial redevelopment of brownfield land on Pyenest Street, Shelton, which could potentially deliver up to 125 homes, including family housing and apartments

full planning permission for JEDS Investments Ltd to build three multi-storey buildings to accommodate 939 student apartments on the site of the former Stoke on Trent College Cauldon Campus on College Road, Shelton.

“To have three developments of this scale given the go-ahead in one day is fantastic news and is clear evidence that Stoke-on-Trent is on the up,” said councillor Ann James, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

“This investment is very much welcomed and proves what we have been saying for some time now, that Stoke-on-Trent is an increasingly attractive location for developers and investors who are showing real confidence in the city.

“We have worked hard to demonstrate that Stoke-on-Trent is open for business, and the mixture of public and private sector residential schemes is testament to the continued regeneration of our city.

“It’s also pleasing to see these schemes coming forward on brownfield land – something we know our residents and businesses are passionate about.

“We have a real passion for housebuilding at the council – more people living and working in Stoke-on-Trent can only be good news for our economy and existing businesses.”
