W Real Estate gets go-ahead for mixed-use scheme

London-based developer and asset manager W Real Estate has secured a resolution to grant planning permission for a mixed-used scheme at St Pancras Commercial Centre in Camden Town.

The St Pancras Campus development will include the re-provision of the existing amount of light industrial space, complemented by 16,300m2 of new office and retail space in addition to 33 residential units: 19 for private sale and 14 affordable.

To make way for the development, the current premises will be demolished, and the new scheme will be split across three buildings of between five and seven storeys.

The development has a focus on sustainability, will be heated and cooled with all-electric systems —avoiding gas altogether — and also makes use of on-site energy generation.

“This is a highly ambitious scheme that balances the re-provision of light industrial space with the delivery of best-in-class office space, high-quality, mixed-tenure housing and associated retail space at ground level for all to enjoy,” said Sascha Lewin, managing director at W Real Estate.

W Real Estate was advised by Gerald Eve, and the development will be designed by Caruso St John Architects.

Alex Neal, senior associate at Gerald Eve, added: “To secure planning permission for St Pancras Campus is a great result, one that will not only create a new quarter in Camden, but also points the way towards the future of city centre development.”
