Middle Park Projects completes conversion of old bank

Middle Park Projects has completed the conversion of a former RBS bank into HMOs in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire.

The project management and sourcing company for commercial conversions used permitted development rights to convert the upper floors into two flats, which it then converted into two six-bed HMOs, also with permitted development.

It acquired the property in July 2019 with an aim to provide accommodation for NHS staff and trainees at the nearby Royal Stoke University Hospital.

The firm worked in collaboration with ARNI Architecture, UK Pro Build, with support from professionals at Base Energy and JHAI on the project.

However, building work was interrupted by Covid-19, forcing a detailed risk assessment of the site and a safe working procedure was put together to continue after a short pause in construction.

“Coronavirus quickly changed the working landscape and got the team reviewing how best to continue with the works with safety the priority; leaning on guidance from the group's trade bodies such as the Chamber of Commerce, RIBA, Federation of Master Builders and utilising video conferencing to meet,” said Charles OKell, director at contractor UK Pro Build.

The works are now 98% complete, and Middle Park Projects is in the process of refinancing out of its development loan.
