Plans for the 12.5-acre site off Mill Road, which already has outline planning consent, have been developed by Bellway Strategic Land – the company’s team of specialists which identifies long-term land opportunities.
The proposed development would deliver 27 executive family homes for the private market and 18 affordable properties for local people, with all the homes having solar panels and electric charging points.
The development would also feature large landscaped open spaces and a children’s play area as well as providing new wildlife habitats to significantly improve biodiversity.
Bellway’s North London division is currently drawing up detailed plans for the new homes, which will be submitted to the local authority later this year, with the aim of starting work by the end of 2024.

Ben Stacey, strategic land director for the South at Bellway, said: “At Bellway Strategic Land we specialise in progressing land opportunities from an early stage and guiding owners and agents through the process.
“We know that this site had the potential to bring forward both private and affordable homes to help meet housing needs in the Uttlesford area.
"Our plans evolved, working with the landowner’s agents and colleagues in Bellway Essex and Bellway North London, and we expect to complete the land purchase in February.
“This is a sustainable development which will not only deliver energy-efficient new homes but also almost six acres of green open space.
"Existing trees and hedgerows will be retained and a landscaping programme will see new ponds created and new trees and hedges planted, which will result in a 20% increase in biodiversity levels at the site.”
