Ex-football stars reveal major Manchester development plans

Football legends Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs have been revealed to be behind plans to transform part of central Manchester.

The Jackson’s Row Development Partnership, which was created by Brendan Flood and the two former Manchester United players, is a partner of the St Michael’s project – a new development in the centre of Manchester, which will provide quality living, working and leisure spaces.

The centre piece for the development will be two tower blocks: Number One St Michael’s, which will incorporate 31 storeys and accommodate a hotel plus residences; and Number Two St Michael’s, which will consist of 21 storeys of office space.

Mr Neville and Mr Giggs will be part of an international consortium comprising The Jackson’s Row Development Partnership, Rowsley Ltd, Beijing Construction and Engineering Group International (BCEGI) and Manchester City Council, who will be putting St Michael’s together.

The project isn’t the first development Mr Neville and Mr Giggs have been part of.

They have also built Hotel Football, located next door to Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, and also teamed up with a developer to turn Manchester’s former stock exchange building into a boutique hotel.

Mr Neville expressed his excitement for the plans in a tweet:

BCEGI has been chosen as the construction partner for St Michael’s and it will also own a 21% stake in the £200m regeneration scheme.

“We’ve been incredibly impressed with BCEGI’s approach to doing business and their attitude towards the development of large, strategic, city-centre sites,” said Mr Neville.

“Even in these earliest phases, the team worked quickly and transparently, helping [to] ensure a smooth and effective legal process.

“Now, we’re looking forward to working with them on the delivery of St Michael’s to help us create a first-class development.”
