The pledge comes as the council attempts to adhere to the Building safety Act 2022

Newham Council pledges to make all high-rise residential buildings safe by 2029

Newham Council has pledged to make all its 87 high-rise residential buildings safe within five years, by 2029.

The pledge comes as the borough’s approved the five-year Residential Safety Strategy – High Rise Buildings.

According to the council, it has registered and submitted and all the key building information for all its 87 high-rise residential buildings with the building safety regulator, ahead of official visits in April of this year.

The move comes as the council makes efforts to adhere to the Building Safety Act 2022.

Cllr Shaban Mohammed, cabinet member for housing Management and modernisation at Newham Council, said:  “Securing approval for our very important building safety strategy to ensure our housing blocks are safe for residents today is another huge milestone in our concerted efforts to prioritise investment in our housing stock to improve the quality of life for residents and to protect our homes for future generations.”
