Watkin Jones 484-bed PBSA scheme approved

Watkin Jones has secured planning approval from Bristol City Council for a 484-bed PBSA development.

Due to be built on Malago Road, Bedminister in Bristol, this development represents one of the final projects of the Bedminster Green regeneration area. Two years of negotiations with the council have preceded this.

The developments will range from six to ten storeys and be built on a disused brownfield site. A new public space will be included in the development, along with storage for 130 bikes, on-site parking, EV charging and improvements to highway infrastructure.

The scheme will target a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and WiredScore ‘Gold’ with strong connectivity for students, in addition to an EPC rating of B.

Watkin Jones will partner with management company Fresh to deliver 24-hour on-site services for students.

"We are very excited to announce planning approval for our second project in one of Bristol's key regeneration areas and our third active project within the city,” said Ben Wighton, head of planning at Watkin Jones.

“Our commitment to providing high-quality, and well-managed purpose-built student accommodation will in part address the significant growing demand from the University of Bristol.

"We look forward to continuing our efforts to meet this growing need alongside the City Council and the local communities."

It was not disclosed when construction would start or when it would be completed by.
