Weston Homes secures planning resolution for £220m Colchester project

Weston Homes has secured a resolution to grant planning consent for a £220m residential development in Colchester, providing up to 600 homes.

The developer gained the resolution from Colchester City Council for the project, called Viridis, in Stanway.

Designed by PRP Architects, the scheme is part of a government requirement for this local authority to build 920 homes a year.

“This new development in Stanway, Colchester is part of our ongoing major growth and expansion,” said Bob Weston, chairman and managing director of Weston Homes. “We are looking forward to beginning the delivery of this fantastic new community for the people of Essex."

Viridis will feature a mix of 420 private homes and 180 affordable units, complete with large areas of public space including ponds, play areas and pedestrian and cycle routes — the development will also be constructed with fibre optic superfast broadband.

"We are creating at Viridis more than just homes; we are designing a lifestyle that harmoniously combines quality, affordability and nature,” said Carolina Ipes, associate of urban design and masterplanning at PRP.

“This development ensures that every resident, regardless of their housing choice, can enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the natural surroundings.

“We have meticulously planned Viridis with sustainability and walkable neighbourhood principles at its core.”

A variety of housing options will be offered – two-, three- and four-bedroom houses for either private ownership, with similarly sized units also available via affordable routes — one- and two-bedroom apartments will also be available for homebuyers in the latter category.
