Planning permission submitted for £1.3bn Edinburgh brownfield development

Edinburgh Council and Cruden Homes have submitted planning for a £1.3bn development at Granton waterfront.

The brownfield site development aims to create over 800 net-zero homes, with at least 35% being allocated for affordable housing.

The homes will be connected to a low-carbon heat network provided by Vattenfall Heat UK Ltd.

The site also aims to have capacity for a new primary school, commercial units, travel routes, and sustainable transport infrastructure.

The site also holds the Granton Gasholder, which has been restored to become a public park, while the former Granton Station has been restored and holds a public square.

Fraser Lynes, managing director at Cruden Homes, said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working closely with the council, local community and key stakeholders to create a transformational design that reconnects the capital to the Firth of Forth.

“The delivery of 847 much needed, high-quality and sustainable new homes across all tenures will make an important contribution to alleviating the well-documented housing emergency.”
