A St Andrews development by a company backed by singer Justin Timberlake and golfer Tiger woods has received planning consent.
The celebrities are shareholders in T-Square Social, which already operates a dining and entertainment venue in New York.
Approved by Fife council, the application is aimed at establishing St Andrews’s New Picture House cinema as a social hub in the area.
Two of the three screens and 345 cinema seats will be retained, with improvements made in both seating and technology at the site.
New dining and entertainment offerings will be created with a range of sports simulators including golf, rugby, lacrosse and football. The exterior and name of the historic cinema will be unchanged.
“Like many independent cinemas, The New Picture House has been faced with sharply falling customer numbers and was faced with a decision to close or adapt,” said Craig Gunderson, associate at Savills Planning.
“The approved alterations and enhancements to this listed and much loved 1930s building will celebrate and protect the legacy of The New Picture House for generations to come.”
The planning proposals fir the scheme were lodged by Savills.
