Work starts on 2,500 home Vistry development

Work has commenced at a 2,500-home Vistry development on the edge of Swindon.

The development at Lotmead is a joint venture between Vistry and Sovereign Network Group (SNG) and will include a local centre, two primary schools, sports hub and green space.

Properties on the site will include a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom houses and eight one-bedroom apartments, with the first homes due to be completed by summer 2025.

In addition, Vistry will be investing around £60m in local services and infrastructure.

The 417-acre site, called King George Park, will feature 214 homes built by Vistry Cotswolds under the Bovis brand. This first phase will take place on a 39-acre parcel of land to the south-western part of the wider site.

Of these, 153 properties will be privately sold through Vistry with 61 made available as affordable homes for SNG.

Planning permission for the Lotmead development was granted in 2021 with detailed plans for the first phase approved in June of this year.

Senior figures from Vistry, SNG and Swindon Borough Council attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of this work on 23rd August.

“The New Eastern Villages scheme is one of the most significant urban regeneration projects in the UK,” said Supriya Ray, regional managing director of Vistry Cotswolds.

“This exciting development will not only help to address the country’s housing shortage but also assist Swindon Borough Council’s aspirations to kick start economic growth in the town and wider region.”

James Gibson, development director and regional managing director (west) at SNG, added: “This site is a positive step towards delivering our ambitious plans for tens of thousands of good, affordable, new homes that are much needed. I’m delighted that our joint venture with Vistry will form a vital part of the delivery of this vision in the Swindon area.”
