ISG collapse halts £1.8bn of London projects

The collapse of construction giant ISG has had widespread impacts across the industry, halting £1.8bn of projects alone in London.

Glenigan has analysed the fallout of ISG’s collapse and identified where disruption will be felt across the UK.

ISG called in administrators on 20th September 2024 with operations then halting with immediate effect.

London is seeing the biggest impact with 24 projects halted, worth £1.8bn. This includes two data centres worth £150m each.

The South East is the next hardest hit region with 11 projects worth £779m now in limbo. In Wales, eight projects worth £463m have been halted.

According to Glenigan data, ISG had projects worth £2.5bn on site with awarded contracts worth a further £1.7bn. This has left 33 awarded contracts, 57 on-site projects and three imminent completions up in the air.

Glenigan commented: “This situation presents a major problem for both contractors and subcontractors, many of which will be left seriously out of pocket, putting a large number of jobs on the line.

“However, there is a commercial opportunity for agile suppliers to step into the breach, ensuring many of these projects do not fall behind and involved subcontractors are supported.”

At the time of collapse, industry data and public sector works accounted for a third of ISG’s £4.3bn pipeline.

Private housing accounted for £577m of this, with social housing representing £18m of work.
