Somerset Council’s South Area planning committee has greenlit the plants, which will include a 35% affordable housing allocation.
These homes will be constructed with sustainability in mind with timer-frames, solar panels and EV charging stations incorporated into their design.
Land will be safeguarded for a future primary school with two hectares set aside for future employment use.

A local play area will be built on the site, along with new hedgrows, woodland planting and sustainable drainage systems.
“This development will not only provide much-needed new homes for local people but will also deliver wider benefits including new infrastructure to environmental enhancements and support for the local economy,” said Claire Burton, managing director at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley.
“We’re grateful to Somerset Council and members for their support and look forward to delivering a high-quality, sustainable development for the local community in Castle Cary.”
