Homes England eyes £50bn from private sector in new plan

Homes England is seeking to unlock over £50bn from the private sector by 2035, as part of its new strategic plan.

The government’s housing and regeneration agency has unveiled its Strategic Plan for 2025 to 2035 in a bid to ‘supercharge’ housing delivery in the UK.

With a range of measures seeking to unlock more land for development, and foster greater collaboration with stakeholders, Homes England is expecting to deliver 280,000 new homes in the next five years.

In addition, Homes England is also hoping to unlock land capable of supporting 400,000 further homes in that time with completions doubling to 80,000 a year by 2029/30.

The plan will see Homes England scale up support for SMEs, promote mixed tenure by default and make stronger and more targeted use of statutory powers such as Compulsory Purchase Orders.

More grant funding will be made available for affordable housing at a greater scale and pace with the agency working closer with mayors and local authorities.

“Homes England is playing a key role in building more new homes by bringing in essential private investment and supporting the biggest boost to social and affordable housing in a generation,” said housing secretary Steve Reed.

“The launch of their new plan today kicks off a new phase of working together to invest in housebuilding at scale that will help us bring the housing crisis to an end.”
