A construction company been been appointed as the preferred bidder to provide facilities management services for 50 UK prisons.

Carillion plc, based in Wolverhampton, has been appointed by the UK Ministry of Justice to provide a range of services for public sector prisons in London and East under one contract and South West, South Central, Kent and Sussex under the other.

The contracts are scheduled to begin on 1st June 2015, for an initial five year period, however, there is potential for two subsequent one year extensions.

The work is expected to generate combined revenue of £75 million per annum.

Carillion will provide a range of hard and soft facilities services including mechanical and electrical engineering maintenance, building fabric maintenance, energy and environmental services, as well as waste management, escort services for contractors, cleaning services and minor building works.

In regards to the new development, Carillion Chief Executive Richard Howson stated: “I believe this reflects our ability to provide fully integrated service solutions that are tailored to the needs of our customers, combined with a strong focus on quality and value for money,” he said.
