An application for retirement living spaces at The Spitfire Ground was rejected by Canterbury City Councillors.

The planning application for 60 apartments to be built on the Old Dover Road side of the ground was refused by the committee, despite a recommendation for approval from planning officers.

Kent Cricket CEO Jamie Clifford said the club regretted the decision.

“We are clearly bitterly disappointed with this outcome and await the full decision notice from the Council before considering our next steps,” he said.
