A Council has given the go ahead for major development set to affect a prominent football stadium.

Northampton Borough Council has granted planning permission to Northampton Town Football Club for a 100 bed hotel and a conference centre for the club. Also, authorisation was received for the creation of 255 new homes and a collection of retail units situated near the club.

Club Chairman David Cardoza praised how supportive the council had been to NTFC throughout the application.

"This is an important part of the process that will allow the club to move forward and progress by improving the facilities at the stadium,” David said.

He went on to stress the importance of the hotel and the conference centre as income streams “outside of the ups and downs of football”.

"We are putting foundations in place now to ensure a bright and successful future for Northampton Town and we have a Borough Council who recognise the value the club brings to the town.

Leader of Northampton Borough Council, Councillor David Mackintosh is also pleased to see the plans approved.

“Modernising the ground to bring in more corporate and commercial facilities will help ensure the Football Club can maximise revenue and operate as a business all year round,” Councillor Mackintosh said.

“This additional funding can only help provide a sound financial base for the club to work from.”
