The guilty owner of a scaffolding firm has been charged £5,000 for an offence that potentially risked public safety...

Anthony Dale, of Tuckingmill, Cambourne, owner of Cambourne-based firm Protec Scaffolding, was found guilty of two counts of causing obstruction by setting up scaffolding on a highway. On both occasions this was without authorisation from Cornwall Council.

At a hearing on the 2nd of December at Truro Magistrates Court, it found that Protec did not alter the scaffolds, even after notification from the council.

Mr Dale failed to attend the hearing.

The Chairman of the Bench expressed concerns over the potential risk Mr Dale’s conduct might pose to public safety. He was fined £4,000 for the first offence and £1,000 for the second, as well as £992.95 worth of costs and a £120 victim surcharge.
