A man has been sentenced for defrauding more than £200,000 from his friends…
In 2006, Michael Morison, 75, of Marlfield Court Flixton, Manchester, persuaded a friend he had known for four years to invest £43,000 towards the purchase of some land in Lincolnshire. On agreeing, the friend paid Morison the money and sold one of his own properties to fund the investment.
Then between 2005 and 2009, Morison led his friend and another acquaintance to make other investments.
In 2011, Morison was confronted by his victims, soon after he admitted all his wrongdoings and even signed admissions.
On 12 January 2015, he was sentenced to two years in prison at Manchester Crown Court.
An earlier hearing saw Morison plead guilty to two counts of fraud by false representation and two counts of obtaining property by deception.
Detective Constable Stuart Donohue from GMP’s Serious Crime Division described the seven year investigation as “complex.”
“Morison abused the trust of his friends and convinced them over a number of years that they were investing in a number of opportunities including the buying of land and investment in high value antique deals,”
“Although Morison has admitted his crimes he has shown no remorse whatsoever and has often blamed other people rather than blaming himself.
“Morison has now been sentenced for two years in prison and will have this time to reflect on his crimes.”
