Developers and investors have been given the chance to secure the future of some of Newcastle’s most famous landmarks.

Property agents Sanderson Weatherall are marketing the City Hall and the historic City Pools buildings located on Northumberland Road.

Councillor Nick Forbes, Leader of Newcastle City Council, stated that this is a unique opportunity for individuals to take a part of Newcastle’s history and develop it into something for the future.

"We know how attached the people of Newcastle are to the City Hall and City Pool buildings and we want to hear from anyone who believes they can successfully develop the sites to secure them for the future,” said Councillor Forbes.

"The City Hall continues to be a popular venue, and we believe that whoever comes forward with plans for this part of the site must demonstrate how they will develop it as a venue for live entertainment.

“A combination of Government cuts and rising costs meant we sadly had to close the City Pool complex, including the magnificent Turkish baths, two years ago.”

It is expected that the City Pools building will be brought back into alternative use, while the City Hall will continue to act as an entertainment venue which is currently run by the council.

“The buildings have huge potential and we hope we will find bidders with the imagination and enthusiasm to plan a bright new future for the site,” added Nick.

“This could include community groups who can come forward with viable plans and proposals to bring the buildings back into use.

"Our decision on which bids will be accepted will be based on which proposals offer the best prospects for securing the future of the buildings, in the best interests of local people."

Offers are available on a Long Leasehold (125 years) or Leasehold basis for a pending term. All offers are to be considered on their own merit.

Commercial bids should be submitted to Sanderson Weatherall by 2nd June 2015, while community groups will have until 2nd September 2015 to submit a bid.
