A eco-housing development in Bristol managed to have all of its residential units built within nine days.
Additionally, all of the project’s homes are constructed with straw panels which are transported to the building site in one piece and can create buildings that can withstand hurricanes.

The straw panel product belongs to ModCell ® which was set up in Bristol in 2005.
ModCell manufactures prefabricated panels made of straw as low carbon building materials. The compressed straw acts a sturdy thermal insulator for wall or roof cladding.
One resident based in Leeds, Lara Eggleton, who lives in a straw-insulated home says her heating bills have dropped by 20 per cent.

ModCell recently featured on the BBC’s The One Show which showcased the product’s 10 year history.
Funding for ModCell’s product was sourced from Innovate UK and product development assistance was provided by the University of Bath.
