Harworth Estates has begun work on a major industrial development which is set to create 450 jobs.
The development, which is situated South of Barnsley on 15 acres of land near Dearne Valley Parkway, will create high quality industrial unties, named r-evolution @ Gateway 36.
Funding for the infrastructure works and construction of the first three units has been provided by a £4.8 million loan from Sheffield City Region Joint European Support for Sustainable Investment in City Areas Fund, which is managed by CBRE Advisors.
Harworth has been working in partnership with Barnsley Council, who granted planning permission for the development last month. The first phase of building work will include the construction of the initial site infrastructure, along with the first three units at the size of 65,000 sq ft.
The units are set to be available for lease and are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“We are delighted that we are bringing forward a high-quality scheme with Barnsley Council’s support. There is a significant lack of new units of less than 50,000 sq ft in Yorkshire and R-evolution @ Gateway 36 addresses this need,” said Campbell Carruth, Director of Business Space at Harworth Estates.
James Newman, Chairman of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, added: “This scheme epitomises public-private collaboration in our City Region. I am pleased to see that local business is responding to market demand by bringing forward vital development”.
It has been noted that the development will create more than 450 jobs on top of having the potential to add £20 million in Gross Value added to the local economy.
More information on the scheme can be found here.
