Plans for a £4 million pound casino to replace a derelict Wolverhampton nightclub have been submitted.

Casino 36 Ltd based in Aberystwyth has submitted plans to Wolverhampton City Council to refurbish the former Dorchester nightclub which has been standing empty for a number of years.

The application which was submitted by Development Project Services, which was acting on behalf of Casino 36 Ltd, is for a change of use from a Night Club to a Casino use.

Casino 36 Ltd already runs the existing Rubicon Casino in Temple Street which is located next door to the vacant property.

The approved plan states the group will expand and improve the facilities and “will provide a cohesive and contemporary statement to an urban corner which has long suffered from neglect.”

Adrian Ballard, a Director of the applicant Casino 36 Ltd, said: "We estimate the total cost of the project to be £4 million. This will be a premier landmark venue for Wolverhampton city centre within the Southside regeneration area.

"It will bring up to 133 jobs and attract thousands of visitors to Wolverhampton. We are 100% committed to the city and delivering this project.

"There will be something for everyone with non-gambling areas including a high class restaurant, sports bar and darts, pool and snooker."

The building work will see total re-cladding of the main street facades and the new premises primarily fronting Summer Row will have dilapidated brick facades along with a predominance of red on the façade which is seen as a lucky colour in gambling.

Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council's cabinet member for economic regeneration and prosperity, said: "Our officers have carried out a very thorough evaluation process taking the advice from nationally respected industry experts.

"The licensing committee are recommended to approve the application and this casino will bring hundreds of jobs, millions of investment and a facility that will be one of regional significance in the heart of a regeneration area."
