The Director of an electrical contractor firm has been given a five figure fine after a young worker was killed whilst carrying out works on a construction site…
Mark Hammond, Director of Hamtech (UK) Electrical Services Limited, was fined £12,500 at a hearing at Southwark Crown Court examining the worker’s death.
Mr Hammond, of Church Gresley, Swandicote, Derbyshire pleaded guilty to breaching Section 3 (1) of The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
The hearing was held following the death of a 21 year old worker who was electrocuted whilst carrying out works in the communication room in a basement on a construction site at Great Peter Street, London on 6th July 2011.
As well as being fined £12,500, Mr Hammond was ordered to cover prosecution costs of almost £50,000.
