A consultant who worked for a commercial law firm has been banned from being involved in a legal practice by the SRA after it was found he had been convicted of intending to pervert the course of public justice.
Noveed Mumtaz (SRA no. 620344) worked for commercial law firm Nesbit Law Group LLP, (ID 469734) based at Warth Business Centre, Warth Park, Bury.
Mr Mumtaz was directly employed by the firm from 2003 to October 2013 as an employee and then worked as a consultant at the same firm via his company NM Consultancy (Manchester) Limited until January 2014.
It was found, however, that Mr Mumtaz had been convicted upon his own confession, of three counts of "doing act tending and intended to pervert the course of public justice" in December 2013.
He was then sentenced in January 2014, imprisoned for 6 months in total and ordered to pay £4,040 towards prosecution costs.
The SRA has now imposed a section 43 order on Mr Mumtaz which states that no solicitor can em-ploy him in connection with the solicitor’s practice unless permission has been received from the regulator to do so.
According to its website, Nesbit Law Group LLP specialises in commercial litigation, including disputes in construction, insurance and Professional Negligence.
