A cricket club has announced plans to renovate its cricket ground in south London….
Two stands will be replaced by a new development that will add 1,300 seats to the ground and bring its overall capacity to over 25,300.
Surrey County Cricket Club said in a statement: “Spectator facilities will be vastly improved with extra catering units, toilets and much needed circulation space and undercover areas.”
“To add to the fans’ match day experience, a roof terrace area has been designed for the use of Surrey Members at domestic games, including the NatWest T20 Blast, and hospitality at major matches.”
The Peter May and Lock Stands will be replaced in the refurbishment.
The new stand will still be named after Peter May and the Laker Stand will be renamed Lock/Laker to honour the Tony Lock and Jim Laker spin partnership.
Construction is due to be completed in May 2016.
The club also has more development plans for the future and has been granted planning permission to improve the stadium beyond this development and is working on plans for a new building which will include two floors of office space to create a business hub.
