A property construction firm has been fined after a 2-year-old boy was able to wander onto a building site.

360 Property Limited, of Beaufort Street, Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale, was served an improvement notice whilst working on new build housing at Oak Road, Blaina, after security issues were not addressed, despite a previous visit from a HSE officer who highlighted concerns.

Newport Magistrates Court was told that between January and June 2015, the construction site was inadequately secured.

In May a young child gained access to the site and was riding his bike before falling into a drain, where the cover had been removed, luckily he was not injured.

David Kirkpatrick, Inspector for the Health and Safety Executive, said: “It is absolutely imperative that construction companies adequately secure their construction sites to prevent unauthorised access.

“Construction sites can contain hazards that children and vulnerable people may not fully appreciate.”

360 Property Limited was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £6,668 in costs after pleading guilty to two offences.
