The government has confirmed funding for Inverness Castle as part of a £3m investment in the City.
The grounds and access to the castle will be upgraded to enhance the experience for visitors.
Highland council is already in the process of creating a viewing platform at the North Tower as part of a separate project.
David Mundell MP, Secretary of State for Scotland, said: “Instead of power being locked away in Edinburgh or London, City Deals pass power to local areas and allow them to take control to achieve great things.”
“The UK Government has already delivered a City Deal for Glasgow and we are working hard on agreements for other cities, including Inverness and Aberdeen.”
“This is another good example of the UK, Scottish and local governments working together for the common good.”
The plans, part of the government’s City-Region Deal funding, were announced in conjunction with a second Inverness project that will see a free public access WiFi scheme in the city to increase digital connectivity.
