New property listings were up for a second month in a row in October, according to HouseSimple.com.

The online estate agent says new property listings across the UK were up 2.8% during the month, with London registering a 3.8% increase.

The Merseyside town of Bootle saw the biggest rise, up 47.4%, while supply in Sunderland dropped by 20.5%.

Alex Gosling, CEO of HouseSimple.com, said the data suggests that there is a glimmer of hope that the housing supply crisis is beginning to ease.

“We are starting to see more new properties coming to the market, but levels are still well down on what would be considered healthy levels,” said Alex.

Alex did however say that recent data has been volatile.

“There is still a massive demand supply imbalance, and in many towns and cities the numbers of new property listings fluctuates dramatically from month to month,” said Alex.

“Until we start to see consistent and stable increases in supply, the market is likely to see upward pressure on prices continue."
