A group of campaigners have launched a petition to save a popular music venue in Norwich from potential redevelopment.

Give a Hoot has been set up to save The Owl Sanctuary, a pub, café and venue for aspiring musicians after it was sold to a property developer.

The group is concerned that the developer, Richard Pratt, will close the venue which has become a symbol of the city’s community spirit.

The campaigners have already raised £5,000 through a crowdfunding site, won the support of Norwich South MP Clive Lewis and gained a lot of local press coverage.

In the meantime, a petition to save the venue has gathered 8,668 signatures at the time of publication, and once that figure hits 10,000 it will be sent to Ben Price, one of three councillors in Thorpe Hamlet Ward City, where The Owl Sanctuary is located.

“It is called a Sanctuary for a reason,” said the group.

“It is a symbol of Norwich's spirit, of its creativity and drive.

“We don't want to let it go quietly into the night.”
