A petition has been launched to save Hall Green Greyhound Stadium in Birmingham from being redeveloped for housing.
It has discovered that a planning application has been made by Euro Property Investments Limited and Wulff PDM LLP to Birmingham City Council to build 210 dwellings on the site.
Stephen Rea, Former General Manager of Hall Green Greyhound Stadium, said he had been amazed at the level of support received since he started the campaign.
“It is clear that Hall Green Stadium, a former winner of Race Course of the Year, is appreciated as one of the better stadiums in the sport, and everyone is agreed it would be a major loss having staged racing since 1927,” said Stephen.
“I am aware that due to the lease restrictions, the Directors of the GRA (Greyhound Racing Association) are unable to comment on our campaign, but knowing them as I do from 14 years working with them, I am sure they are as committed to keeping the stadium open for greyhound racing as we all are."
So far over 1,300 people have signed the petition in a bid to reach 1,500 signatures.
