Cricket club scores planning permission

A cricket club in Grassington, North Yorkshire has been granted planning permission to develop a new clubhouse.

Upper Wharfedale Cricket Club has teamed up with Yorkshire-based Bowman Riley Architects and planning consultancy Rural Solutions to create a pavilion which will also serve as a venue to host social events.

The two-storey building has been designed to look like a traditional Yorkshire barn to blend in with its surroundings in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.
“We are delighted that the new clubhouse building has finally achieved planning approval,” said Tim Lockett, President of Upper Wharfedale Cricket Club.
“The current pavilion has done a job for 40 years but with junior and senior cricket now happening six days a week during the summer, we are desperately in need of a new building that can serve cricket and the community for the next 100 years.
“The design and space will also allow us to generate much needed revenue throughout the season.
“We can now begin in earnest raising the funding required to make the project happen as soon as possible.”
