Bristol City Council’s Development Control Committee approved plans for the Bristol Arena as well as agreeing to outline plans for the rest of the Arena Island.
A new 12,000-seat music arena in Bristol has been given the green light by the local authority.
The application for the arena with a public plaza and the outline application for the future development of housing, business and leisure facilities both received unanimous support.
However, the plans were approved with conditions that will need to be discharged before the arena opens.
The Bristol Arena will replace a derelict former diesel depot close to Bristol Temple Meads station with a flexible, indoor venue which will allow it to host concerts, public exhibitions, fashion shows and conferences.
Work is currently underway to create new access routes to Arena Island with work on the arena due to start later this year.
The venue is due to open in 2018.
