World famous sports arena set for development

The All England Club has revealed its master plan to redevelop Wimbledon.

The famous tennis venue is set to undergo a face-lift with No.1 Court being the main focus, which includes an extra 900 seats being added to the arena, as well as a new retractable roof.

The construction work to redevelop Court No.1 will begin in July 2016 with the removal of the existing roof, and is set to be completed in 2019.
Along with the redevelopment of No.1 court, the All England Club also revealed that there will be a new public plaza where Court 19 used to be, as well as new hospitality facilities.
Sir Robert McAlpine has been appointed as the main contractor, with the project being part-funded by the proceeds of the 2017-2021 No.1 Court No.1 Court debenture issue.
Up to 1,000 debentures are being offered at a price of £31,000 each, which is expected to raise £25m and will be invested into the improvements of the grounds.
Philip Brook, Chairman of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club added: “Wimbledon is strongly committed to supporting the future of tennis through investment in players, in integrity, in our facilities and in the grass court season.”
