Buckinghamshire-based Denham Film Laboratories, originally part of the Denham Film Studios, will be transformed into 224 converted and newly built residences, to make a ‘mini Beverly Hills’, following its acquisition by developer Weston Homes.
The new development will be known as the Denham Film Studios.
Bob Weston, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Weston Homes, said: “For almost 80 years the Denham Film Studios played a central role in the history of Hollywood and British movie making.
“With its iconic art deco centrepiece, the retained and restored cinema once used by Hollywood directors and its illustrious history, this is without doubt the most exciting, glamorous and unique restoration project Weston Homes has undertaken to date.
“Our vision at the Denham Film Studios is to create an art deco and movie-inspired residential address within easy commuting distance of London via rail or road.”
The £120m project will create 154 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and 70 four- and five-bedroom family townhouses.
Homes on offer will range from one-bed starter homes up to large five-bedroom executive houses, with prices between £350,000 and £1.5m.
A former cinema, which screened movies for the likes of Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick, will be restored as a cinema theatre and club for residents.
The Grade II-listed main laboratory and head office building was built in 1936 and designed by Walter Gropius for film producer Alexander Korda.
