Former pub transformed into affordable homes

House builder Westleigh Homes has completed the construction of 25 affordable homes on the former site of a pub in Derbyshire following investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Westleigh transformed the site in partnership with social housing provider emh group and Erewash Borough Council after the HCA provided funding of £2.8m.

Gary Turner, Head of Investment and Partnership at Westleigh, said: “We’re thrilled to have worked with our partner agencies on this important project which will help to meet the continued rise in demand for affordable housing within Derbyshire.”

The homes will be available for affordable rent via emh’s social landlord arm, and will include a mixture of one-, two- and three-bedroom properties.

Four of the homes will be available for shared ownership, allowing residents to buy a share of their home and pay rent on the rest.

Councillor Carol Hart, Erewash Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Community Engagement, added: “This is another good-news development for Erewash as we continue to work with our partners on providing the best quality affordable homes for our residents.

“It is good news for the borough that this derelict site will be turned into a quality development offering a whole range of properties to suit all needs.”

The Jolly Farmer Pub on Skeavingtons Lane was demolished in 2008, but building work did not begin until April 2015.
