Famous sports ground undergoes renovation

A date has been set for the completion of the Warner Stand at Lord’s cricket ground after demolition of the original seating area was delayed.

The new 600-person seating area will be constructed in time for the second England vs Pakistan Test match on 14th July 2016.

Demolition of the original Warner Stand began in September 2015, though work was delayed by the discovery of asbestos deep within the structure.

A temporary stand has been erected in front of the project site with 267 seats sold to the public for the current Test match against Sri Lanka.

The stand’s roof is due to be installed in winter, as well as a new 135-seat restaurant, three bars and a match officials’ facility.

Photovoltaic roof panels will enable green electricity generation.

A new floodlight has also been installed as part of the work.

The stand will increase the overall capacity at Lord’s from approximately 28,000 to 29,000.

Plans for the new Warner Stand were revealed in December 2013.

They were designed by architect Populous, who was also behind the London 2012 Olympic Stadium and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.
